Meet Kaz: Player, Coach, and Gear Tester

Hi, I’m Kaz — the founder of Outdoor Basketball Shop and a basketball coach with over 15 years of experience on courts across the country.

I started this site because I was tired of seeing players waste money on basketballs that split at the seams, hoops that rusted within a seaso
n, and shoes that fell apart after two weeks on asphalt. As someone who spends 20+ hours a week on outdoor courts — both coaching youth teams
and playing pickup games — I know which gear actually survives concrete, rain, and heavy use.

Every product recommendation on this site comes from real hands-on testing. I don’t write reviews from an office. I dribble the basketballs, s
hoot on the hoops, and wear the shoes through full pickup sessions before I ever recommend them to you.

Our Testing Process

At Outdoor Basketball Shop, we believe reviews are only useful if they’re honest and thorough. Here’s how we test every product we recommend:

  • Duration: Every basketball is tested for a minimum of 30 days. Hoops are assembled and left outdoors for full-season exposure. Shoes are worn for at least 15 hours of court time.
  • Surfaces: We test exclusively on outdoor courts — concrete, asphalt, and synthetic surfaces. Indoor performance doesn’t count here.
  • Conditions: Gear is tested in real weather. If a ball loses grip in humidity or a backboard fades in sunlight, we report it.
  • Player Feedback: I recruit local players and youth team members to test alongside me. Multiple opinions matter.
  • Annual Retesting: Top picks are retested every year. If a manufacturer changes materials or quality drops, we update our recommendations.

What We Review

Outdoor Basketball Shop covers the full ecosystem of outdoor basketball gear:

  • Basketballs – Rubber, composite leather, and indoor/outdoor hybrids
  • Hoops – Portable, in-ground, wall-mounted, and poolside systems
  • Shoes – Outdoor-specific basketball footwear, including wide-foot and durability-focused options
  • Accessories – Pumps, rims, nets, court markings, and training aids

We don’t chase trends. We recommend gear that lasts.

Editorial Independence

Outdoor Basketball Shop is an independent review site. We do not manufacture, sell, or ship any products directly.

  • We never accept payment from manufacturers to feature or favor specific products.
  • We never let brands read or approve our reviews before publication.
  • We buy or borrow most products anonymously through normal retail channels, just like you would.
  • Some articles contain affiliate links to retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. When you click these links and make a pu
rchase, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions help fund our testing, but they never influence our opinions.

Our loyalty is to readers — not brands.

Medical Review by Dr. Alex Rivera
